Winter Moving: What You Need to Know
Cold-weather moves come with discounts, risks, and a few surprising advantages.

The winter moving discount is real
Off-peak moving (October through April) is typically 15–25% cheaper than summer. You get better crews, better trucks, and more flexibility — because demand is lower, the best people are available.
Plan for the elements
Cardboard boxes don't love snow. Hardwood floors don't love wet boots. Lay down moving blankets, plastic floor runners, and have a plan for snow on move day — your mover should bring traction mats and salt.
Mind the moisture
Electronics need to acclimate to room temperature for 24 hours before being powered on. Moving them from a cold truck to a warm room creates condensation that fries circuit boards.
Daylight is shorter
Plan move-day to start at 8 AM, not 10 AM. Loading in the dark is unsafe. If a winter move runs long, you want lights on at the destination — not setting up a TV by phone flashlight.
