Keep pets out of the chaos on move day

The safest place for a pet on move day is somewhere entirely removed from the activity — a boarding facility, a friend's house, or a quiet room with the door closed and a sign asking the crew not to enter. Open doors, unfamiliar people, and constant foot traffic are a recipe for a stressed or escaped pet, even a normally calm one.

Update ID and microchip information before you move

Make sure your pet's collar tag and microchip registration reflect your new address and current phone number before move day, not after. If a pet does slip out during the confusion of moving, updated ID information is the single biggest factor in getting them back quickly.

Pack a pet essentials bag, just like you would for yourself

Food, water, medications, a leash, waste bags, and a familiar blanket or toy should travel with you, not on the truck, so your pet has what they need immediately regardless of delivery timing. For longer trips, plan ahead for feeding and bathroom breaks, especially for anxious or car-averse pets.

Settling in at the new home

Set up a small, familiar space for your pet at the new address first — their bed, food and water bowls, and a favorite toy — before the rest of the home is unpacked. Keeping feeding and walk schedules consistent in the first days at a new home helps a pet adjust faster than a completely disrupted routine would.
